When I Work Hires Octavian Tarcea as Chief Technology Officer

Minneapolis, Minnesota – May 11, 2021 –When I Work, a market leader in shift-based workforce management software used by nearly 200,000 workplaces worldwide, announces the addition of a chief technology officer to the company’s leadership team. Octavian Tarcea — previously senior director of software engineering at UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group) — takes on the CTO role at When I Work this week.

“We have a world-class R&D team at When I Work that has built a product loved by nearly 2 million shift workers. We will be experiencing considerable growth in our R&D team over the next couple of years to give our customers more functionality to make shift work awesome,” said Martin Hartshorne, CEO of When I Work. “Octavian has substantial domain expertise in building applications for shift-based workplaces, and he has been successful as a leader in high-growth companies and running large, growing teams. He also understands the importance of building a strong caring culture, which is something we prioritize for our team at When I Work. Overall, he is a great fit for us, and I’m very excited.”

Tarcea has two decades of experience at workforce management software companies, including Cybershift, Workbrain, Infor, Ultimate Software and most recently at UKG (formed when Ultimate Software and Kronos merged in 2020). In 2010, he co-founded EmployTouch Inc., which was acquired by Ultimate Software in 2013.

“I’m excited to join When I Work and help deliver employee-focused scheduling and attendance solutions that help shift-based workplaces build happier, more productive teams,” said Tarcea. “When I Work is uniquely equipped to deliver something that has been sorely lacking in our space: products that employees love that still enable managers to run efficient operations.”
